I was born in Alpena Michigan in 1979.  I grew up around the area of Muskegon Michigan and was completely fascinated with everything related to fishing.  While growing up I read all the fishing magazines and watched every fishing TV show that I could growing up.  My dad was not a real big fisherman so he really did not teach me a whole lot of secrets about fishing.  We always tried the best we could when we went out but we never seemed to do very well and got skunked a little more than I would like to admit.

My first 5 pound bass age 11

What made matters worse was I knew that I could do a lot better and catch a lot more fish if I  just kept trying.  All thru High School I studied fishing and had some success.  While in high school I wrestled and played football.  I went to the state tournament twice in wrestling and found it to be the other great interest in life.  I still wrestle and am interested in science of wrestling and physical fitness.  After high school I had a few years of college, got bored with that and joined the Army.  I was in for four years with the 101st Airborne and had a pretty good time.  Before we deployed for the invasion of Iraq in 2003 I was home on leave were I meet my wife.  After one week of knowing each other I asked her to marry me, she was just as crazy as me and said yes.

After I got out of the Army I moved back home in 2004 and started fishing my home waters again.  Over the next few years I started to catch a lot more fish than I had at any time in my life.  I was not exactly sure why my fishing improved.  I began to actually do as well as what I saw on the fishing shows on TV.  For much of my life Iwith the hope that I would catch a limit of Bass.  After 2004 I went out with the expectation that I was going to do well and just knew I was going to be successful.  In the last few years I have tried to examine what exactly caused the change and how I could teach others to make the same transformation from just hoping to catch a limit to being sure that you were going to have a successful day no matter what.  After a lot of study I came up with this website and a few books and videos that I believe will take any angler from just hoping they will catch fish to absolutely knowing they are going to succeed every time out.

My boat on the Cumberland river at Dover TN

As you can see from the above picture I do not run a very expensive rig. I have a little 14 ft boat and an old Ford truck.  I usually only carry six rods and one tackle box in my boat.  I fish out of the same aluminum boat that I have had for 10 years now. If you want to listen to someone because of their sponsors and the flash of their boat or truck, I am probably the wrong guy.  I am focused on educating others to do what I do, I am very good at what I do and teach only things I know work because I personaly tested it. If you want to learn from someone who is successful I am your man.

John has created his own website to help other bass fisherman catch more hog bass. His videos and books are learning tools that he has written and filmed to help others become more successful fisherman.
